Family Practice Medical Center transitions to Carris Health – Willmar Lakeland Clinic
April 3, 2020
In January 2019, Family Practice Medical Center of Willmar formally joined the Carris Health regional healthcare system.
Carris Health was created in 2018 as a partnership between Willmar’s Rice Memorial Hospital, ACMC Health and St. Cloud-based CentraCare. In January 2019, Redwood Hospital, along with Family Practice Medical Center, joined Carris Health to continue strengthening health care in West Central and Southwest Minnesota.
Family Practice Medical Center (FPMC) is proud of the forty-four year history in the Willmar area, having served patients since 1976. Over the past year, FPMC has worked together with CentraCare and Carris Health to align processes, teams and systems to position the organization for continued success in a health care industry that is rapidly changing.
Beginning April 20, 2020, FPMC will take another step towards integration when the clinic goes live on the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system. The single EHR platform manages appointment scheduling, registration, insurance, billing and a patient’s electronic medical record.
This is the same system already used by Carris Health and CentraCare clinics, surgery centers and hospitals. More than 250 million patients around the world have a current electronic record in Epic.
“The conversion to Epic will allow sharing of data and information providing for better continuity of care for all patients across all care settings and locations, said Tony Amon, M.D., Family Physician with Family Practice Medical Center. “Using a single, comprehensive health record across our system will support the best delivery of care possible for our patients.”
Along with the transition to Epic in April, patients at Family Practice Medical Center will begin to see and hear a new clinic name, Carris Health – Willmar Lakeland Clinic.
“The brand change will happen slowly over the next year,” said Stacey Zondervan, Family Practice Medical Center Clinic Manager. “Because we have been located in the Lakeland Medical Center building for twenty-five years, the name, Carris Health – Willmar Lakeland Clinic, made the most sense and we felt would cause the least confusion for our community. We will continue to provide the same expert care that our patients have come to expect in the same location.”
The Carris Health – Willmar Lakeland Clinic provides primary care services including obstetrics and lab. X-ray, ultrasound, mammography and bone densitometry (DEXA) scans will remain on site at the Willmar Lakeland Clinic. Computed Tomography (CT), along with other imaging services, are available at Carris Health – Willmar Main Clinic and Carris Health – Rice Memorial Hospital locations. Pain Management procedures are also available through Rice Hospital.
“We are optimistic about the future of healthcare in our region,” said Mike Schramm, Carris Health co-CEO. Together we are working to improve the quality of care and the overall health of our communities.”
